This is really a strange looking setup here (in addition to being dangerous). Maybe I'm missing something here...Is this (or was this) a three-family dwelling that has somehow been converted to occupancy by a single-family?
I have a pretty good idea that the box in the center is an old fuse-type panel, from which the circuits have been lifted and re-connected to the panel to the left, which doesn't appear to even have any support for the bottom third of it.
If it is indeed a three-to-one conversion, it certainly looks like a bad one.

BTW, what are the jumpers that are jammed into the jaws on sockets two and three? From the photo, they appear to be small pieces of wire. Curious to see what happens to these "electricians".
