Even more amazing (scary) is the staunch defense of the method if you challange them about it. (Just open the main and it is perfectly safe!)
It's been done on this side of the Atlantic as well. Aside from the dangers of a two-plugged cord, no matter how careful people think they might be in opening the main, when the lights go out and there's a scramble to get the genset running, there
will come a time when they forget.
