Wasn't there a rule or maybe a proposal to have the outlet for a hood over a residential kitchen range on a separate circuit? Can't find it.

I found the code reference I was looking for and it appears that the connection of a range hood is permited to be cord and plug and if so it must comply with 422.16(B)4. Other than that it muist be hard wired.

What a coincidence!

From Mike Holt's monthly NEC Questions and Answers e-mail:

Quote
Q10. Am I required to have a dedicated circuit for an above the range microwave that includes a range hood if it’s cord-and-plug connected?

A10. Yes, see 422.16(B)(4)(5).

IAEI also fielded a question that answered, a range hood is not auxillary equipment to the range.
