Scraped some copper I pulled out of an old service and some feeders. # 1 copper (striped clean) was $2.45 a pound. House wire 14 and 12 unstriped was $1.23. What's the going price in different areas. I'm in the Chicago south suburban area.

Metro Atlanta

$2.70 stripped/ bare bright
$1.60 for 10/12 insulated

That's the best we have close to the house. I could drive an hour to get a little better price, but the gas almost exceeds the gain.

I believe $3.50 a pound is what 'new' copper is currently trading for but of course you will not get that at the scrap yard.
