Situation- 1" EMT from an MCC to a motor with 4 90 degree bends in the conduit. Changed over to flex for 24" for final connection and used a flex 90 connector at the motor. The inspector turned down the job because he says that's 5 bends in the run. If that's the interpretation I can show him thousands of violations. Any thoughts?

Greg, unfortunately, per the pure wording of the conduit and tubing articles where it it states

the inspector is correct. You could use a condolet at the transition (if it stays accessible) and be compliant.

You may need to check out 358.26 in the NEC code. This is where the code violation was from.

Roger, since you can't pull through a flex 90
*, should it be included as a bend between pull points? If there were 3 90* bends in the conduit and also the flex 90*, you still wouldn't be able to pull through the completed run. Just wondering...

Why not just use one of the 90° flex fittings with the sliding cover?
Try a Regal 9674
It adds 0° to your run.

My view is that the 90 degree connector WITH A REMOVABLE BACK is a pull point just like an LB would be. I did not pull wire through it along with the other bends. I pulled out enough wire to reach the motor and fed that last 36" or so through the flex and through the connector. How many bends could there be in 24" of flex?

Maybe 300-18 [1999 Code] may help in this situation. "The raceway shall be permitted to be initially installed without a terminating connection at the equipment."
The handbook notes that this applies to a 90º connection to a motor.
In any case, a 90º connector is impossible to pull under any circumstances. They must be hand fed one wire at a time and it takes an hour.
Note: the degree symbol "º" is made by Alt + 167. On the number keys with Num Lock and Scroll Lock on.
