just was wondering what you guys think. All the homes in the New Oreals area that might have been under water for two weeks or more do yall think the wirring will need to be replaced. there was some real ruff chemicals in the water that might be a problem for the rubber shething later down the road. what do you think?

Unless there is some magic pixy dust to correct the mold problem in them homes and buildings, they should be demolished.

Electrical wiring would be a mute point....

I agree.. from what Ive been told is that the mold once stured up can spread to an area where the spores can take ahold and grow in an area that might not have been affected say the ceiling...

If a house was under water it is a candidate for a bulldozer, not a rewire.
I think they should just paint a line around the puddle where it was about October 1 and raze everything inside that ring.

They should really be spending those billions in barging dirt down from the north and backfilling that place so it is above seal level. I can't imagine FEMA allowing them to rebuild in a bowl again.
Around here yuou can't build anything less than 11' above sea level. That typically involves 3-6' of fill. When you stop at a light there are always a half dozen dump trucks in line with you.
NOLA has the river to bring in the dirt and there are some huge machines from the strip mining business that could do the task pretty fast.

It seems to me they could do a gut rehab on some homes, if the structure and possibly exterior is in okay condition.

It's not my field, but given the nature of the chemicals and sewage in the floodwater I think the residences and small businesses should be removed to a special landfill. As adding many cubic miles of fill is impractical, other areas of the country have had success with building on stilts.

Thank you! I've been saying exactly that since a week after the storm. We have landfills in this country larger and deeper than the hole that's call New Orleans. There is nothing worth saving- fill it in and build on top. The property will be worth much more too.

I say clean it up, clear the whole town, break the levies and make the whole place a controlled hatchery for fish and their friends to replenish the Gulf.

I agree with the sentiments expressed above. I think mitigating the trememdous health hazards from the toxic water and mold should be a much greater concern at the moment than any foolish talk of rebuilding, let alone rewiring.

The place needs to be leveled, and the debris hauled off and incinerated.
