Another crazy question but you guys seem to have the answers so thats why IM asking another one.
I have a customer needing a temp pole on property. No problem done them before. BUT the transformer is at the corner of the lot about 200 feet from where the house will be. Any ideas? Set pole by transformer or by house? I saw one the other day the contractor ran a cable (looked like SO but didnt look close enough)from the pole in the ground up to the back of the lot into a spider box. Any ideas?

If the trades on site will be getting their power at the poles via GFCI's, then setting it close to the house seems the obvious choice.
If it's a pad mount xformer this may become your service lateral if UG is the plan for the final(depending on whether or not your AHJ /PoCo allows splices in UG services)

You may want to check with the local power company. We are required here to set the temp power pole within 10'of a transformer or power pole.

I agree with Redog that you should ask the POCO. I think they are the ones to have final say. If they don't care, then I would keep the pole close to the worksite to keep voltage drop to a minimum.

Im wondering if you can split the difference. Our local power company isnt so strongminded when it comes to temp power. Without seeing the actual site, I would go with the route that is most accomodating to the trades on the job. 2 100' extention cords arent so friendly to power tools. Also a big determining factor would be the amount you got to provide temp power.
