Is there any reason why ordinary stamped steel masonary boxes could not be used in a slab. This would not be a new pour, but added to an existing slab after cutting out a section, then using display receptacles with the heavy brass plate and disc cover.

314.27 C 2002 NEC would prevent you from placing them in the floor, but it is ok to surface mount a box on the floor.

I istalled 7 of the Hubbell PFB1 PVC boxes. Each box requires a PFBA1 adapter. The box and adapter together cost about $18. A 3/4 inch thick terazzo floor will be installed on the slab. We will be using the SA5016 cover. They cost $53 each.

Is something like this prohibited by current or recent versions of the NEC for "floor-up" mounting?
