This is from a mechanical contractor's boiler room. If you're a control electrician, you get to do this kind of stuff.

Guy was obviously a hack or he would've cut a CLEAN hole in the cover as opposed to cutting it from the side.......

Guess he didn't know about box extension rings.

We did have a thread here about using "device" boxes for relays.

Are they mixing line voltage with low voltage wires in that 4-11/16 box?

The low voltage wires are probably good for 120 volts but the open holes into the box are larger than allowed.

It looks like a lot of work to do something wrong. As Greg points out, there are extension boxes. I think an 8.8.4 box is a cost effective solution.

If you're a control electrician you'd learn how to do that sort of stuff properly.

And this is why I like our DIN Rail mounting stuff.
Everything inside the one sealed box, no need to wack holes in everything.
