Local and state rules often modify the NEC, here is one from Vermont. Modify the NEC?

Florida originally adopted the NEC unaltered but they are now letting amendments to creep in.
We are currently on the 2008.
Most controversial amendment right now is softening the GFCI rules on pool pumps in 1&2 family.

There are no local amendments allowed. It is a state wide code.

These are the amendments

Quote

SECTION 2702 EMERGENCY AND STANDBY POWER SYSTEMS [F]

2702.1 Installation. Emergency and standby power systems shall be installed in accordance with the NFPA 70, National Electrical Code, NFPA 110 and NFPA 111.

SECTION 2704 BONDING METAL FRAMING MEMBERS

2704.1 Bonding metal framing members. Metal framing members shall be bonded to the equipment grounding conductor for the circuit that may energize the framing and be sized in accordance with the National Electric Code Table 250.122. For the purpose of this section, a grounded metal outlet box attached to the framing shall be permitted.

SECTION 2705 GFCI PROTECTION

2705.1 NFPA 70-08: National Electric Code, Article 680 (Swimming Pools, Fountains, and Similar Installation), Section 680.22(B), GFCI Protection, is amended to read as follows:

(B) GFCI Protection. Outlets supplying pool pump motors from branch circuits with short-circuit and ground-fault protection rated 15 or 20 amperes, 125 volt or 240 volt, single phase, whether by receptacle or direct connection, shall be provided with ground-fault circuit-interrupter protection for personnel.

Exception: One-and two-family dwellings.

NJ adopted the 2008 NEC for the statewide electrical subcode. There are a few amendments, none of which are major. Our 'rehab' code is still using the 2005 NEC, as it was adopted, with minor amendments. The Ecs are now doing CEU with a mandatory 9 hours of 2011 NEC changes; so basically we are 'using' three versions of the NEC.

Edit: Additionally, the above is statewide, there are no local deviations.

Rhode Island was supposed to adopt the Code Aug. 1 2011 but we are still waiting on the legislature.

John,

Last I heard (and read on DCA website) the Rehab code is going to the 2008 NEC. This way when they adopt the 2011, the Rehab wouldn't be too far behind.
