One says utility meters only measure true power and dwellings are not paying for bad power factors anyway.
I also understand heavy hitters like A/C compressors and refrigerators have power factor correction built in as part of the energy star certification. I notice when you see the test of a "green plug" or similar device, it is using an unloaded induction motor.
