From Albert LaFrance

I just found a fantastic one illustrated in a British book titled
"General Electrical Engineering",
from the 1940s. It shows the control panel for the electric propulsion system of an ocean liner.

I've attached the scanned image; this has to be one of the coolest control panels ever!

If I ever build a time machine, I'd have to make it look like the first pic for sure. How cool is that?!

Here's another fantastic control panel, a 1930's beauty from one of the world's great powerhouses (they don't call 'em that anymore, do they?): London's Battersea Power Station.

The BBC's Battersea web site has a panoramic view of of the control room: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/shared/spl/hi/uk/05/battersea_redevelopment/html/controlroom.s tm

Note the elaborate ceiling, and the clusters of giant meters near the windows toward the back.

There are more pictures of the plant here: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/in_depth/uk/2005/battersea_power_station/default.stm

Looks like someone's been watching too much "Star Trek":

Battersea power station was a well-known London landmark for decades. You can find a few more photos here:

For those not familiar with London, here's a map you can locate it with and zoom in/out:

Here's another control room showing a definite "Star Trek" influence:
