I wear Red Wings, the best boot ever . Work outside in the winter in Maine and a pair of warm waterproof boots is a must. Red wing makes a gore tex boot which are comfortable, warm and dry. It helps that they make all sizes and widths especially when you wear a snowshoe sized boot like I do

I'm on my second pair of "Durashocks", steel toe, electrical rating.
Gramps, I can't believe that you get 6yrs. from a pair of boots. Two years max. for me.
I've also had Red Wings and been happy with them. The Wolverines stay drier and need less care.
I've been paying about $125 for work boots. The cheap stuff just doesn't work for me. I have narrow feet and special order from the limited selection in the narrow sizes.
Proper fit is the key to comfort. Also replace the inserts when they show wear....your feet will thank you for it.

2 years! 6 years! How do you guys do it? 1 year if I push it! Red wings, Wolverines, Sears have all been the same. I tear up the insides within 6 months. Wirewiz

Thanks for all the replies guys.
I've been trying to find out where I can buy Durashocks in my area. There are a lot of retailers listed on the web but when I call them they tell me that they no longer carry Wolverines.
I tried Sears but they have only one style of Wolverine at best and usually not my size.
I stopped at Super K and Wal-Mart tonight...no luck.
Any suggestions?
I would like to try a pair on before I buy.

yeah, i get 5-6 years out of a good pair of boots. proper care and cleaning, plus a little mink oil on them from time to time, does wonders....also, i'm pretty light on my feet, for a old man!....

I have been wearing Redwing boots for about 10 years. Size 15 don't grow on trees. I get around a year and have to replace the boots. Nothing else seems to last more than a few months.

Thanks for the link Wolfdog, that is the first place I tried. Every time I call a dealer that they have listed, the dealer tells me that they don't carry them any longer.
Thanks anyway.

i actually buy my shoes and other items through my electrical supply house. they have a "safety shoe" truck that comes around about once a month or thereabouts, and sets up in the parking lot for one day. they carry most all of the major brands, and have other items, such as gloves, hardhats, jackets, etc. very good selection, and, if they have to order something, it is shipped directly to your home address, if you wish. you might check into that service in your area.
