This is a common situation. This is the riser for an underground Residential Service where the EMT has rusted away at and below ground level. Any Comments or Advice?

Show the home owners an mpeg file of a transformer blowing up.

Call an electrician!

I would also say the soil seems slightly acidic [Linked Image]

To prevent this from happening one I would fasten a tin ingot to the EMT below soil level. This would provide the same protection as the anode on a hot water tank.

Of course, at this stage Plastic is the way to go to replace this and prevent it from happening again.
