I can speak from recent experience that a 5-30P and an L5-30P are dramatically different in price. Twist Lock is apparently much more popular in these parts for anything over 120 volts or 20 amps. I paid about five times the cost for a 30 amp straight-blade plug rated for 125 volts.
Given that, I would also probably convert to twist Lock in such instances.
