I happened across a site today that shows the way mine is installed:

(Mine actually was installed with a strain-relief on the outside of the rear of the dryer which doesn't do very much good, I would think...)

So, here is my question: What is the advantage of having the 4-conductor rather than the 3-conductor cable?

I realize that this is the latest NEC regulation. Is there a safety issue involved?
