Looking at the combined effect of the various tables, we arrive at 16 amps allowed for #14, and 20 amps for #12 (using the 60 degree column). Since there's that little footnote that already limits us to 15 and 20 amps, respectively, we're left right where we started.

Unless, of course, we strat putting multiple cables through the same holes, or grouping them all together. "Maintaining spacing" has been subject to a great deal of debate on some other boards, rather reminding me of the mideaval theologians debating how many angels can dance on the head of a pin.

I don't know where I got the idea that Romex was now allowed to use the 75-degree column; it seems I was wrong on that point. Thanks for the correction!
