How do you tell who owns a site?
You can do a "Whois" search.
It can give you the Name, and sometimes contact info for the domain owner.

or http://www.networksolutions.com/en_US/whois/index.jhtml

You can find out too much info 'bout who owns a site this way. It makes you worry about what information you provide when you register, as it can provide everything short of your bank account info to anyone.

It also tells you when a site will become available again. Say if somebody like myself wanted your site domain name, if you lapsed your registration for one minute, I could register it the minute after your current registration lapsed. Neat Huh? However you have to be quick, a much wanted domain name may be sought after by many Name Squatters, if they get it, they'll only sell to the highest bidder, or hold out for someone who'll pay more.
