I am doing a renovation in an old Baltimore City, MD home and it requires a service upgrade. Basically I am redoing the entire electrical system from start to finish.

What I need to know since this is the first time I have ever done this is where am I required to tie my grounds to and how?

A fellow electrician told me he THINKS a grounding rod is required. If this is the case what are the requirements of the grounding rod.

Also, he said the the ground needs to be anchored to the water pipes. What are the requirements for this?

Jwhite has a good point. A professional is paid for his knowledge, expereince, and judgement. If he doesn't know something, he knows where to find the answer.

I grounding, as well as remodeling a basement, there are lots of design decisions to be made. A "quick" answer, such as might be given in this forum, could very well be wrong- simply because some critical detail was omitted.

As you list your info as an electronic tech. Do you have a license and the knowledge to get a permit?

Follow the rules and get the required permits. Baltimore City was paying inspectors overtime to drive around on the weekends to catch unpermited work.

Baltimore City also would not let you bond the gas to the system, although this may have changed.

They also require the front exterior receptacle to be switch controlled if it was within 10 foot of the sidewalk.

"Squintz"... as in everybody squintz as they look at the bright fire from the burning building in Baltimore City MD. Yikes!

i forgot to mention, that baltimore county md is one place that has a huge book of local code. a fourm of this nature is not going to help much. and ann arundal county is worse.
