A 1984 NEC handbook commentary says Section 230.40 is new (in 1984). I am trying to find the intent behind the original Exception 1 to 230.40. Does anyone have any type of analysis book, a copy of the proposals, or panel comments? [Linked Image]

Charlie,
Was it the same section in the 84 code? I have the 83 TCR and the proposals for 230.40 have to to with bare or covered aluminum service entrance conductors.

Charlie,
In the 81 code 230.40 was "Insulation of Service-Entrance Conductors" and in the 87 code it was "Number of Service-Entrance Conductor Sets". (I couldn't find my 84 book)

Don, the 1981 Code has 230-40 but it is Insulation of Service-Entrance Conductors. In the 1984 Code, the proposal would be addressed as 230-XX (NEW) in the TCR. After it was accepted, it was inserted ahead of Insulation of Service-Entrance Conductors and became Number of Service-Entrance Conductor Sets. [Linked Image]
