Can anyone tell me if there is a International Building Code for electric?
Does it differ greatly from the NEC?
Ant insight would be helpful.
Thanks, Jim

The International Electrical Code is about 20 page long and contains no electrical requirements.
It is designed to be adopted with the NEC to help in enforcement. It is like an expanded article 80 that addresses items like severability and board of appeals. It also creates a governing body upon adoption and grants legal permissions to the building department and its employees.

The ICC EC does contain a few electrical requirements beyond the NEC: Romex may be used in any building, regardless of height or construction type. Attics and crawl spaces shall have a lighting fixture and receptacle if appliances requiring servicing are installed. All fixtures and appliance are to be listed. Smoke detector circuits are to be on lighting branch circuits. Smoke control systems shall have 2 sources of power. The door to electrical closets shall say ELECTRICAL ROOM. Smoke alarms shall have battery backup and be interconnected.
