Please take a look at this discusion. http://www.selfhelpforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=1542 A person who claims to teach NEC code and be an inpector say the setup with the power at light and 12/3 switch legs going though the light is a violation. He says 12/3 must run from swith to switch.

I posted a reply to him at Joe's site but the entire thread was deleted. I do 3 ways like this ocaisionally but I usually reidentify the travellers in the lite box. However any sparky worth his salt could look at this and know what it was identified or not. Russell
I hate to be negative but this is certainly exceptable practice. I agree it is not the preferred installation. As for reidentifing the wires I believe this is a pain. If you don't know this connection you shouldn't be there. Same with the switch loop. The white tied into the black immediatly tells me what I have. Unfortunatly 2002 Nec Art. 200.7 (c)(2) says we are to do otherwise.
