I cannot find my 93 Code. The local inspector told me I cannot use NM-B for the interior wiring from the panel to the disconnect in a single family dwelling. From the DC I was going to switch to PVC and continue to the hot tub. This will feed a hot tub located on a grade level exterior slab. He could not provide a Code ref saying his book was in the car. Could someone provide a Section with a direct quote, please.
As a side note he told me that allowing a method from a later Code would be breaking the law as that Code has not been adopted. Your thoughts?

I don't have a copy of 93 w/me,but..... Just as we have to have our tools to do our job,he needs his code book with the city amendments to do his job.Not just a handful of red tags.I would tell him to get his code book out of his car if wants to start turning down work.

Jim,
The 1993 NEC sec. 680-40 Outdoor Installation. A spa or hot tub shall comply with provisions of part A and B. Then if you look back into section A & B it talks about grounding for a motor or a panel. This is why you need to know which section of the code he is failing you for. Is he calling the spa outside "wiring to a motor"? or "wiring to a panel"?

Harold,
I wish I knew. This guy is no ball of fire so I don't expect much help. It doesn't matter now. I roughed in with PVC for the future and stopped before penetrating the vinyl siding.
Would you consider the wiring area around the terminals a panelboard? Using the definitions of a panelboard, I don't think this would be a panelboard. It does not have OC protection
