i hope to explain this question clearly.
a small fabrication shop has a 400 amp 240v 3 phase service. (currently 140 amp calc. load) The owner wants to expand the building which would require a 200 amp sub panel (calc. load 100 amps) The current panel (GE) will not accept a 200 amp breaker (load side)to feed the sub. Question is...would I be able to connect to the line side of the 400 amp main, which is double luged, to feed a 200 amp breaker adjecent to the main panel to feed the sub located about 60 feet away?
There is no disconnect @ the meterbase.
thx for any help. ken m

230-72 requires the disconnects to be grouped. Could you terminate under the extra set of lugs (main was double lugged) and land in an enclosed breaker (rated for service entry), then go onto the "sub panel"?
