Removed a medicine cabinet from a house built about 1955. It had fluorescents built-in on each side and outlets and switches in the lower part. What intrigues me is the wire connectors. There were connectors that looked like short red scotchlocks with a yellow upper skirt. The red portion is 7/8” and the yellow portion is 9/16”. The red part is hard, like scotchlocks, and the yellow part is very flexible. Another strange item is the markings. One has “3M R/Y R25 8-22”, another is “3M R/Y L25 8-22”, and the third is “3M R/Y -20”. These letters/numbers are cast into the skirt of the red portion. I can deduce they were a product of Minnesota Mining & Manufacruring. Anyone with knowledge of these items?

You mean these guys? My personal favorite, been using them for about 10 years, since they came out, not very old..... Good conductor range and a good bite on the conductor. I often find them in the washer and dryer...... [Linked Image]

3M = Minnesota Mining & Manufacturing

Heres all the info you can get on them. I think the change in letters and numbers may be lot, and year model?

LOL, yeah, my washing machine sure won't miss the bits of copper and other such stuff in the bottom of the tub and pump.

Thats right did you not step back from the trade? No more screws in the laundry?

I kinda doubt they had wirenuts like those 50 years ago when the house was built. From my experiences, those old fluorescent lights were usually soldered together with a little friction tape wrapped around the splice. We sure are spoiled nowadays, aren't we?

It's good to know, though, that I'm not the only one who finds wirenuts, ground screws, 6/32, 8/32, anti-shirts, etc, etc, after doing a load of laundry.

By the way... I know I can't be the only one who has one jar for change, and another for "parts" on their dresser.

Thank you e57.
As I retired 14 years ago, I had never viewed these connectors prior to last week and I assumed they were from a by-gone era. Ah well, I do know the meaning of "AssuME"!

Dear Shock Me.
No you are not the only one with screws,wire nuts, crimp sleeves, washers, drywall screws, and the occasional tip off my ten in one in the load of laundry. My girl laughed a lot when she read your reply. I can now open up a electrical hardware store with all the stuff that I have collected. Even foumd a outlet in one load . Thanks for making us laugh tonite.

Heard a bunch of racket coming from the dryer one night. Opened the door, and 2 350 MCM split bolts fell out.
