I asked my friend a few questions and it turns out the antenna is in the attic rather than on the roof. Even with good cable and connections I think it's fair to say the reception is borderline...in Crystal Lake.

Yup. When we were doing them we flat out refused to put them in an attic. Even if you could aim them properly they never worked well and if the picture was lousy after we were done it was tough to collect our money!

Better to lose the job than to do it and lose money.
