I have a Baldor motor SPEC info is 35e412-72
This is a 1/2 hp 1725 rpm 120/240 motor.
I need to know the connection plan for it.
It has terminals
L1, L2 (obvious) 3, and 4
It has wires marked 8, J and no mark.
The current hook is 8 and no mark to 4, J to 3. Line connected to L1, L2.
I think this was set up for 240 volt.
I would like to connect 120v CCW rotation.

Thanks very much

Wonder if you have tried Baldors web site.
http://www.baldor.com

looks like once you get there you can type in a cat # for specific info.

Been there. I don't have a catalog number. That spot is blank on the plate. The spec number reveals no matches.

usually I have seen the L1, L2, 3, 4 wired as :
for 120- L1&3 together, and L2&4 together
for 240- L1, 3&4 together, L2
but the other wires throw me off- is this an OEM type of application? Is it indeed a reversible? Is it a PSC motor? What is the application?, Can you back into it through a mfrs. schematic? Unless it has a odd frame # or special shaft, this motor shouldn't cost too much to replace with new one, rather than spend too long on diags.

Hi - baldor has a decent search feature here for the specs you listed: http://www.baldor.com/products/prod...=All+Families%7Ctbl%5FACMotor s&hp=% 2E5&voltage=115%2F230
choose the various requirements (HP, RPM, voltage, frame) on teh left side of screen and they return a sizable list to choose and then you see a photo, with specs. You can scroll through to help u ID the motor visually and maybe get a start for wiring diagram. Good Luck 2 U

It's an old motor I had laying around that was pulled from a machine that was scrapped. I think it from a bell and howell inserting machine. I want to install it on a hay lifter for a friend but I need it be 120 volt and I don't know if the direction is correct.

The complete specs of the plate are
spec 35e412-72
frame 56
ser 376
h.p. 1/2
volts 115/230
amps 8.6/4.3
rpm 1725
hz 60 ph 1 class A
ser f. 1.25 DES N code L
rating 40°C AMB F

Baldor Electric Co.
Fort Smith ARK

It has a capacitor and a start switch. I suppose I could pull it apart and see what windings the wires go to. I found some very nice drawings in the tech ref secton that I could refer to and get it going.

One of the L leads (L1 maybe), goes to the protector. The protector heater/contact should go to directly to one winding, the other contact to the junction box (I suspect to terminal 3). the non marked wire may be the other end of the run winding connected to the protector.

L2 and 4 are possibly the second run winding.

I'd guess 8 and J are the start leads (which you seap to reverse rotation.

If my supposition is correct, connect line to L1,L2 as normal, hot to L1. NM to L2, jumper 3 to 4.

I'd disconnect everything and ring things out with a continuty checker to be sure. 8 and J connect to 3 and L2. Which exactly depends on the rotation.

Thanks for all the help I think I will pull the end cap off and see what I have. That way I can get it correct for sure.

If you have an email address I can send you a pdf with a wiring diagram for baldor .5HP 1PH 115/208/230V. I am not sure how to attach an email in this forum so I will have to send it direct.

J&8 should go to term. 4 and "no mark" which should be labeled #2 should go to L2 term.
