I was looking for a really good book on understanding controls for the electrician. And also VFDs. alot of the books i've seen look as though they are written for an electrical eng. or for testing purposes. I'm interested in a troubleshooting book or any book that you , as a jw electrician might refer to while doing control work.I would like to take a call for this type of work, but dont want to be totally cold going in. I know there is classes, but I love to learn from books on my own time.

The book I teach from is "Electrical Motor Controls" By Rockis and Mazur. Starts slow, but gets the fancy stuff too. It is out of print, but I found it on Amazon:

Earl,

I was taught from the same book about 20 yrs ago.

It's not out of print. There is a new (updated) edition recently published that includes info on VFDs and PLCs. It comes with a CD-ROM that has quizzes and reference material on it.

We sell it in our store here

That book must be the standard because I too was taught from the same book. I think it is great because of the quizes.
