I have a degreaser that contains motors and heating elements. The amp rating is 300amps. The machine comes with a disconect switch on the control panel. Do I still need another switch on the outside of the machine control panel? I'm planning to put a safety switch next to the electrical panel.

need more info what does the control panel do,start the machine?safety switch? distances
from panel? to make sure you will get right info,sketches help. GEO

The control panel start the motor, gas burners and electric heating elements. The safety swithc will be about 20ft from the machine.

If the disconnect on the control panel disconnects all power to the equipment the only disconnect you need ahead of the control panel is your protection and disconnection means.
example:
-You feed from a 400 amp fused disconnect
-Run wiring which is good for the 300 amps(minimum)
Now you have a disconnection means with protection ahead of the equipment and the equipment is disconnected at the panel, and all equipment that is run from the control panel is or should be protected by individual fusing and such (assuming the panel is biult to code)

Ok. Now this is my problem. My boss is telling me that I need a safety switch on the control panel. He says that the disconnect switch is and safety switch on the wall is not enought to be in Code. As of now I will have a breaker going to a Safety switch going to a Disconnect switch. I think this is to Code. Anybody know where can I get this information to show my boss. In other words to prove him wrong. Don't worry I will not get in trouble

If i am understanding this correctly,Juan, if your MDP is 20'away, and you use a 400amp breaker or fuses, and the control panel with a internal disconnect that disconnects all the feeder power to the unit, you do not need another disconnecting means. Is the MDP within sight of this unit?

430.111 will tell you if the switch in the MCP complies with code as a disconnecting means.
