It's a bit apples and oranges trying to compare prices across continents but IIRC the print version of our current standards book (OVE E-8101) is somewhere around 650 Euros, the PDF version 400. This is particularly painful considering all previous editions were available free of charge because they were classified as laws. The current edition is so close to the CENELEC harmonisation documents that the state would have had to pay licence fees, which is why the practice was abandoned and you now have to pay. I think the German VDE 0100 is even more expensive. Thanks to the large number of national addenda and changes it does matter which version you buy, even though they're all based on the same HDs.

If that is the only book you need, probably not a horrible price. Here you can usually find a 23 NEC for $160-$200 us. The problem is there are other books. A lot depends on your job. Everything "special' has it's own book. This is the fire prevention organization and they create a lot of standards. couple hundred here and more over there. Pretty soon you have bought a lot of books

I have the '23 NECs in soft cover, and the Handbook versions, and NJ has NOT adopted the '23 as of yet. We still use the '20 versions. 2020 was available in soft cover, looseleaf, and Handbook versions, and we have it legally available on the PCs,, IPads, and IPhones.

Cost wise, well over the equivalent of 600 Euros.

Now, we also have Fire Subcode with an extensive library of NFPA, Plumbing and Building guys, and IRC books.

A blessing was that earlier this year, the NJ Uniform Construction Code (NJ UCC) 5:23 et al, is no longer available in 'print' form, only electronically. Print was a subscription, and a fee for updates.

Then there is also an extensive library within the Construction Official domain, which is Administrative, including Multi-family, zoning, etc.
