if u have a 100va load and a 50kvar capasitor
brings it to unity powerfactor.what was the power factor before correction.i used w/va and got 86%.could someone check this answer and explain exactly how they got it because
i think my calaulation is flawed. thanks

Sorry I have no formule handy, but, page 4.165 of "The American Electricians Handbook" has a chart that, if I am using it correctly, shows that your uncorrected P.F. is indeed around 86%(actually,the chart indicates 88%).
BTW,
how did you get your wattage to divide by VA?
