So, my decades long search for one of these finally came to an end recently. I was searching for something related and happened to stumble across a supplier that said they had the illusive Trico 38080 "X-Tract-O" Type-S fuse adapter removal tool in stock, so I ordered one. I paid like $29.00 for it not that long ago, but the price is now up to $49.99, which is really kind of excessive for what it is, even though it says made in the USA on the package. After using it for the first time, I think it's going to be more of a novelty item than a necessity, since my old method of using a small screwdriver and long pliers to break and remove the fuse holder is easier and works as well. They must be selling several of them though because back when I ordered they had 96 in stock and currently only show 30 as being available.

I remember an 's-fuse' remover back in the day, I seem to remember 'Bussmann' as the name on it.

I used a small screwdriver, and needle nose pliers more often then the 'tool'.

IMHO, I do not see a run on the tool for $50 by any ECs I know. Fuses are not very common anymore.

The home inspectors are killing off most remaining fuse panels. For some reason, unknown to me, they will declare that a fuse panel, even one with S fuses is a hazard.

Greg:
Up here the HIs condemn fuses and Federal Pacific panels.

Fuses are really scarce lately.
