What's the general feeling about calling a GC to ask questions before Bidding? Do you do it? Does it make you look foolish?

What about calling them once you have submitted a bid...is it a good practice to call and ask what their turn around might be on choosing their subs?

Just curious - that's one of those humps I know that I personally need to get over; being intimidated by the GC.

I have only called to see if the project has been awarded. The biggest problem is when you are not bidding apples to apples. Alot of guys low bid to get in the door and then take on lots of extras. I prefer to give a soup to nuts price so there is surprises. Yes, I do bill per invoice for changes.
