This gear was installed in a large plant facility here in NJ. This plant was a factory that specialized in aircraft radios. That was the actual name of the plant.

At this plant there is an airfield and Jimmy Dolittle practice his blind landing. He would get inside his airplane, cover it with a canopy, take off and land here over and over again till he got his technique down pat.
This gear was installed in 1945 and is still in use today.

The plant buys Primary voltage from the POCO and steps it down itself. The incoming is 12Kv and is stepped down to 4160 volts. There are 6 oil filled switches just outside of this building and they are still in use. The 1 oil filled switch feeds this switchgear.

I believe the gear is rated at 1600 amps at 240 volts. Each of those lever you see in the picture is a disconnect that feeds underground feeders that run through out the complex. Then they run to main distribution centers in the buildings closet to this area. The rest of those oil filled switches feed primary to transformers around the property, which then feed MDB's inside different buildings.

John,

Yeah they are still working. I want t try and get more pictures at this place. Outside of this building, there are live 4160 oil filled transformers. When I get more pics, I will ask Bill to put them here in this forum.

Sparky,

I don't know if those disconnects are even fused or not. They might just be a disconnect without fuses. Though from the picture, there is a hinge on top of each handle.
