Greg,

That is proof positive of just how scary those tornado's can be. Lets all say a little prayer for Joplin.

And now we are getting them in Western MA... Nothing compared to what the middle of the US had, but not that common over here.

n1ist,

There is a tornado watch over the whole Northeast area tonight. Here in northern NJ, we don't have much action because of mountains that block the wind. However I saw on the weather channel some live footage of a tornado around the Boston ( I think) area. It came from a TV tower cam. on top of the building.

Stay safe my friend!

The little F1 and F2s people see in most of the country would actually be blunted by a decent wind code.
Out there in the midwest it would probably just give you debris in bigger chunks.
You can do something with 120-130 MPH wind but when it gets up to 200 I really wonder how much you could do.
perhaps a reinforced concrete dome would be OK.
It would certainly be something to consider if you live in that area. I knew a guy up in Pasco County who built a dome home. It was basically an upside down gunite swimming pool.
They shot foam inside over all the electricals and mechanicals then shot stucco over that.
The place was wind proof, water proof and largely fireproof.
