I know there should be a way to do this, but could someone please tell me how? I want MS Office files like a .doc file to open using Open Office.

TIA,
Jim

In explorer or Open, You can try going to the toold pull down, pick "folder options," "file types" tab, select "DOC."

The under "details for DOC extension" pick change and then, I am blind, but you pick the open office document application and exit and try. It may be that this won't work if open office does not understand native doc and needs to import it. Sorry I do not know.

I'm pretty sure that if you right-click on said .doc file, you get the option in the menu of "Open with" and the option to browse for the application to open the file with, then chances are (if you are using XP), a window will pop up asking you if you want to associate .doc files with this application.
I've used Open Office for ages and I think that is what I did when I first started using it.

Hope this is of some help.
