I am looking for information on LED sign technology and construction techniques. The purpose is to put together an instructional program for sign training.

The 2008 NEC calls for sign shops to be UL listed shops.

A lot of the things you need to know about spacing, etc., is contained in the appropriate UL standard.

1st lesson to sign installers:
Hire a qualified electrical contractor.
Do not use 'zip cord' to wire the individual letters/arrays.
They must have UL for the complete sign assembly.

I got the cut sheets on an building's outdoor sign near Chicago and each letter was individually lit and had an SO cord on it.
The sheet called for the Contractor to drill a hole in the outside wall behind each letter for the cord to go through and mount a receptacle for each cord above the drywall ceiling.
Does ANY of this sound Kosher?
But does it sound unsettlingly familiar?
