I'm going to remember that motion detector idea. But the ceiling could be concrete to.

Cut in a masonary box and purchase a 6' flexible bit(DiversaBit), dirll up from switch box location. Proceed with M/C cable fished down the wall. The bit should have holes in it to use as a fish. Yes I have done this before. It isn't easy but thats why I charge more and still get the job lol

I would consider using some sort of low voltage control method (for example the same sort of power limited supply and relay used with some motion sensor systems), combined with suitable 'flat' conductors simply stuck to the wall and painted the same color as the wall.

This is done now with no wall switch, just the motion detector. Once they get power in there they might go for something else.
