What groups or organizations do you belong to for networking?

I belong to a BNI chapter (Business Networking International). It has worked great for me, met a lot of people and got to know several builders.

I'm in a BNI group. It's been pretty good so far.

Was in ABC. Associated Builders & Contractors. I let my membership lapse because i was too busy to keep up the functios etc. If I had a lot of extra time I would join again, but am too busy right now to justify the expense.

Not to be the devils advicate here, but when I started out, I jumped on one of those networking groups.

Just to find out that the people there were looking to get something done cheaply,, in return for you needing them for services.

In fact, one builder that I met in one of these groups ended up screwing me out of money. He joined the group because he ran out of contractors who would do work for him, and I was a "greenie".

Advise: Check references on those you meet and who need work done. If possible.

Dnk.......

Here Dave: http://www.abcni.org/wmspage.cfm?parm1=46
http://www.abcni.org/user-assets/Documents/2005application.pdf

I just noticed it had a low join fee for the emerging contractor of $350. I may join for that.

Other things I got in the mail said ABC NI was about $1500.
