I know there are a few Firefighters amongst the ECN regulars.
Could some-one please tell me if the Darley Mid-Ship mounted 3-Stage pump is still used in the US?.
We've got thousands of them in our Fire Appliances over here.
Just wondering?

Its not too common, but Darley still makes it and on their website , they say; "The first choice of many international fire departments".

In Austria we have Rosenbauer, from the smallest voluntary fire department to Vienna's city fire department. My dad had to work with these things during his army service, IIRC they had a Volkswagen Beetle or a BMW motorbike engine. The smallest ones are powered by lawnmower-sized 2-stroke engines.

Thanks a lot for that link, them pumps sure look small without a Fire Appliance around them.
I've never seen a Darley fail on the fireground, apart from the time that a new recruit "forgot" to put the sieve on the end of the Suction hose and filled the Impellers up with shingle.

I do know that the Coventry Climax pump is based on a Hillman Imp engine.
They were hard to pull down to immediate suction level,with regard to a good seal on the periphery!.
