G'day Rodalco. Even more alarming than a feeder tripped out, is a direct path from an HV overhead line to a partygoer through a 15M tin foil strip courtesy of one of these new "Extreme Party Poppers"
There's grounds for getting these things banned right there isn't it ?
Where does one buy these things anyway ? I wouldn't mind checking one out.

Hi kiwi, I think The Warehouse sells them.
The strings are not 15 metres long by themselves but they are strips of about 1 to 1.5 metres within the capsule.
They shoot up to 15 metres high.
I haven't seen a new one but have found the remains after a feeder trip, Al foil.

Thanks Rodalco for verifying the length of the ali foil strip.
Given the number of dwellings located directly under overhead HV lines, the party poppers in question should only contain paper streamers.
What was our Commerce Commission thinking ?

Just this morning i heard through the grapevine that Vector (Auckland Linescompany) is trying to get these things banned in New Zealand because of these matters.

Gidday Ray,
I really can't see how a device like this can be sold here when they pose such a significant risk . It's a wonder EnergySafe (if they are in fact still called that) hasn't moved to get these things banned?.

Trumpy, I think the Ministry will only act if somebody raises a complaint. In this case Rodalco is saying that Vector is doing just that.
Vector has more HV overhead lines over suburbia than any other PoCo. Vector probably has had the most trouble with these party poppers.
It would be nice if the Ministry coud assess every product BEFORE it's imported. But thats not practical.
I doubt the Ministry would've predicted the danger of these party poppers even if they had a chance to review them before anyone imported them.
