I recently purchased a motion-activated light control switch in the hope that it might be compatible for use with a bathroom exhaust fan, a motor load.

The installation instructions that came with the switch seem to proscribe the intended use with the following:
WARNING: To avoid overheating and possible damage to this device and other equipment, do not install to control a receptacle, motor, or transformer-operated appliance.

The bath exhaust fan is a Broan, Solitaire UltraSilent, model S80U, 1.1 amp

The motion-activated light control switch is a Leviton, model #6791-I for indoor use only, with ratings:
500W-120VAC, 60Hz (Incandescent),
400VA-120VAC, 60Hz, (Fluorescent)

Is there some way to control this fan with the above described switch, or is there another such motion-activated switch available with which would be compatible?

Thanks in advance for helping me solve this riddle.

you could proably use a 120v relay. the relay contacts of course would control fan motor & switch would control relay coil. you can pick up such atyour local radio shack or electronics supply house. hope this helps. ERWIN
