My father-in-law and I have been helping out a friend who is a GC for about a year. The GC mainly does remodels and needs devices moved or added, panels upgraded, etc. My father-in-law used to do commerical electric work for 15 years, but hasn't done it in the 10 years since moving to Florida. He is always referring to his NEC book and is very meticulous. My question is, how does someone go about getting licensed in Florida (Hillsborough County) without the "6 years of continuous work experience" that is required by the state? Are there any courses that can be substituted for the experience requirement? I'm trying to get him on the track to become an Electrical Contractor. I'm sure he'd pass the exams, but it seems the "proof of education/experience" part is what's holding him up.

I am a contractor an hour east of you off I-4. As compared to some of the 'posters' here(no permitting, private or no AHJ, etc.)

I especially like the triple fee penalty assessed by your county for work performed prior to the issuance of a permit.
