On most PVC fitting catalogs, like Spears, the catalogs state that their fittings are not intended to be used for compressed air. Many shops use PVC pipe for their compressors though, and Spears is just covering themselves in case of a lawsuit.

This house of horrors is now shut down; the landlord evicted the bum. Of course, I haven't been paid yet, so I had to lien the place.
