Reminds me of another photo I saw where a guy had used coffee cans and keyless fixtures to design his own can lights. If necessity is the mother of invention, I wonder who the father was.

iwire - I'm glad your friend is fixing those things - originally, I thought your post was about work your friend had done.

(With friends like that, who'd need enemies (or references)? Just follow them around, fixing their mistakes!)

No he is fixing what I showed and more.

This is a side job but my friend is no trunk slammer, he has had the POCO and the inspector out to the job before starting work.

He has gone back to the customer and gotten them to pay for the additional repairs.

The service in this thread is the one he is replacing.

The real blunder in this installation is the removal of the smoke alarm!!!!

Sometimes people will show me this type of work and ask for my opinion (but not want me to fix it). My response is...

"keep fresh batteries in your smoke alarms and plan your escape route".

In a rental I wired the tenant took the battery out of the master bedroom smoke alarm for his kids toy,they just moved out and trashed the place.
