Hi,
Is it a code violation ( i hate the word illegal) to install a light fixture against combustible materials?

I mean can you just pull out a light fixture and bug it on to a romex sticking through the material and secure it with screws directly to the material? Wire nuts between the fixture and the material.

I myself have never done this but I see it a lot.

As far as I know the only time a JBOX COVER does not require SCREWS, CLAMPS is when it weighs more than 100LBS or is threaded. So there is no JBOX that does not have a cover. This in my opinion would include a JBOX built into a light fixture.

You would not take a porcelain fixture and secure it to the surface with just screws.

I saw a post on here where it was recommended.

Regards

Greg
