I was at the hardware store picking up some supplies, and one
of the salesguys asked me to help with a problem another customer
was having (why me? Just because I was in the electical aisle?)

The customer was looking for a replacement cord for a wall sconce.
He had the original with him - a length of white zipcord with a molded
plug on one end, a thumbwheel switch in the middle, and a squeeze-on male
plug on the other end. Turns out he had been powering up the lamp thru
its convenience outlet for years now. Argh. What some people will do.
I just hope the real feed at the back of the sconce was taped off.
