I have repaired a few. I used a neon transformer for a split second. the location of the gap in the wire was immediately apparent. I used a butt splice and sprayed canned acoustic
to match existing. 20 minute job. Take any fire
precautions you deem necessary. All I had was a small arc and little black spot on all occasions. Maybe try it on the ground with a couple wires so you know what to expect. If you don't find it immediately, use another method.
