We accept credit cards. As someone else stated, the customer will often pay a higher price or go ahead with a project that otherwise they would've waited to do if you can take a credit card.
To get started, for a minimal fee of $5 per month American Express will set you up to let you send in a paper receipt rather than using a terminal. Until you charge $5000 for a 12 month period, they won't take any percentage of your payments. It's a great way to get started without a big expense. It's what I did for the first few years.
