Correction- my typo;
“Later machines went into the Mw range” , should have read
“5Mw range” of course. They were already at 2.5Mw by 1922.
Correction made in main text - Paul.http://scienceservice.si.edu/pages/033005.htm 1942; Westinghouse. Incredible pic., at 5.44 Mw, the biggest Rotary Converter I have yet discovered, with, unbelievably, a 2-storey workspace built into the end-cap, with two doors, guys working on both floors and complete with windows!
http://www.nycsubway.org/tech/power/rotary.html 5 star site! Showing Rotary Converter machines, in NYC subway traction system, with color pics and a superb description of their history, technology, layout, buildings and use. Work your way through all the "click heres" and enjoy!
